As harvest progresses, yield reports continue to improve.
The September 8 Saskatchewan crop report has yield estimates for each crop in each region of Saskatchewan. In most cases, these estimates are above those generated by Statistics Canada back on August 28.
The Southwest region of the province has the lowest yields in each crop by a significant margin, but yields are strong in the other regions.
Northeast and West Central are tied for the highest canola yields at 44 bushels per acre. The Southeast and Northeast are tied for the highest hard red spring wheat yields at 55 bushels per acre. The best field pea yields are in East Central at 50 bushels per acre.
It’s a year where later seeded crops are often the best so harvest results seem to be improving as combines hit those fields. The next big question may be railway performance to move this big crop. CN, in particular, has already been under-performing.
