The second edition of the Spring Fling Junior Show, hosted by Canadian Western Agribition, was a success.

It was held Saturday at the John Deere Sale Arena at REAL District in Regina.

Kylie Beck, the Director of Livestock and Rodeo with Agribition, says there were 107 head of cattle shown off and 86 junior exhibitors from ages six to 21.

"We had kids travel all the way from as far as Lloydminster north, all the way from the Oxbow, Alameda area to the south. Some were up at the wee hours of the morning to come and join us in Regina. We had a 30% increase in exhibitors this year, which was exciting for our second show. We were also able to give out over $12,000 worth of cash and prizes to these juniors, belt buckles, banners, cash awards, and we had lots of smiling and tired kids leaving here on Saturday afternoon." Beck said.

A showmanship competition was held during the day with champions announced in different categories. Those results can be found at Agribition.com/spring-fling-junior-show.

During the competition, the judges were looking for several things between the steers and heifers.

So we had two judges, one that was judging the confirmation of cattle, which would be the breed classes or the weight divisions that the steers showed in. Every judge is looking for something a little bit different, but a female they're looking for structure, femininity, breeding potential, eye appeal, that kind of stuff, and then with the show steers, they're looking for market ready animals as we are approaching end dates with these steers for slaughter, and they're looking for a steer that's going to grade well and hang well once their end date arrives."

She gave lots of praise to the volunteers and sponsors who helped this weekend.

"We had some great judges and our volunteers are top notch. We couldn't do this kind of stuff without our volunteers, so everyone that was busy working around here, pretty much all of them were doing it as a volunteer position, which is really nice to see the dedication from our supporters, and then of course our sponsors, we were really excited to have a lot of returning as well as new sponsors this year. The reason why we can give away so much money and prizes is because of those great partners. We were happy to welcome a bunch of them here on the weekend and they were able to see the show first hand, which was great."

Beck says work has begun on planning for next year's Junior Show.
