FROBISHER — The village of Frobisher continues to do its part to celebrate Saskatchewan's farming history.
The annual Frobisher Thresherman's Reunion was held July 13. President Steve Ward said people flocked to the different activities offered during the day.
Festivities started with a pancake breakfast; Ward noted there was a big lineup at one point and they could hardly keep pace with the demand.
A parade that made its way through the village featured a variety of floats, antique tractors and old vehicles, entertaining those who gathered to watch. Volunteers worked hard to get the machines running. Still, Ward said they could use a few more people helping out to get all of their machines running.
After the parade, a tractor pull attracted 26 kids, he said, and children also searched for coins in a pile of sand. The museum was open for tours during the day, and other activities were offered.
Threshing demonstrations did not proceed due to a problem with the steam engine.
Charlie's Chuckwagon served a roast beef supper.
"It was probably a … replica of the meals they had back in the old days with the threshing crews," said Ward. "Then everyone was sitting around and visiting."
Ward said those who attended had a wonderful time on a nice day, and a lot of kids turned out to learn how farming used to happen.
He noted the Thresherman's Reunion serves as a fundraiser for the museum. Electricity bills and building maintenance costs have to be paid. The museum has old-fashioned ag equipment, household appliances, tools, photos and more.
"We see to get lots of donations from businesses in the area, the Estevan area, Oxbow and Carnduff," said Ward.
The museum is available for tours by reaching out to a member of the board.
