OUTLOOK — With it being September, that can mean only one concrete thing on the Prairies: harvest is in full swing.

On the recommendation of family members, reader Chris Matlock submitted this snapshot of a photo taken by his brother Darcy. Captured at night on Sept. 5, on land located 10 kilometres southeast of Outlook, the image shows their father, Bill Matlock, manning the combine and unloading crop into the back of a grain truck.

The most recent provincial crop report shared that dry conditions across most of Saskatchewan last week allowed producers to make significant progress in the field. Twenty-three per cent of crops had been harvested, up from 11 per cent reported the week earlier. Harvest progress remains behind the five-year average of 40 per cent and the 10-year average of 34 per cent.

The southwest region continues to lead with 39 per cent of this year's crop in the bin. The southeast region follows closely with 33 per cent harvested. Producers have harvested 16 per cent of crops in the east-central region, 13 per cent in the northeast, and 12 per cent in the northwest. The west-central region has the most crops remaining in the field, with only 10 per cent harvested.

Farmers and producers all around the province are busy in the fields day and night getting their crops in, highlighting what Saskatchewan is perhaps best known for to the rest of the world.
