Federal Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald is back from a seven-day trade mission from Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines.

Joining MacDonald on the trip were Cereals Canada, Soy Canada, Protein Industries Canada, Canada Beef, Pulse Canada, the Canadian Pork Council, and the Canadian Cattle Association.

MacDonald talked to his international counterparts, industry leaders, importers, and other stakeholders about " boosting agricultural and agri-food trade, increased cooperation on research, innovation, food safety and technical expertise, and to promote the Canada Brand", says a news release from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)

Market trends, regulatory challenges, and opportunities for growth were also discussed, added AAFC.

MacDonald and the delegation also attended the World Food Expo, the largest Agri-Food and beverage trade show in the Philippines.

The latest trade mission is part of Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy, launched in 2022, to create economic prosperity between Canada and the Indo-Pacific region.

The Indo-Pacific is Canada's second-largest regional export market, exporting $22 billion worth of agriculture and agri-food products to the region in 2024.
