Canada’s Two Major Railways See Improved Grain Delivery Numbers in Week 39: Ag Transport Coalition

CN and CPKC Rail supplied a combined 83% of hopper cars ordered in grain week 39, an improvement from the 77% order fulfillment performance seen in week 38.

The Ag Transport Coalition says this represents the fifth consecutive week of improved performance and the best performance seen for the two railways combined in more than five months.

In supplying 86% of cars ordered by shippers in week 39, CN performance improved from the 84% order fulfillment performance seen the prior week and represents the railway’s best performance in more than five months going back to mid November.

It is also only the second time that CN order fulfillment performance has surpassed the 80% performance threshold over that time period, now having achieved that milestone for two consecutive weeks.

CN performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a forty-first straight week going back to week 51 of the prior grain year.

CPKC saw performance improve, with the railway supplying 78% of shipper orders in week 39, an improvement from the 71% order fulfillment performance seen in week 38.

CPKC performance remains below the 90% performance threshold for a twenty-third consecutive week.
